IntruGuard Devices Announces General Availability of the IG200 DDoS Firewall

New security appliance offers the lowest cost security appliance dedicated to DoS/DDoS attack prevention.

Sunnyvale, June 5, 2006. IntruGuard Devices, Inc., a leading provider of DDoS Firewalls to web hosting, Internet Service Providers, enterprise and data centers today announced that the Intrusion Gateway IG200 security appliance is now released to production. This latest model is available today in volume quantities. Scalable levels have been enhanced to allow over 500 thousand simultaneous connections and performance has been tuned to allow over 75 thousand new sessions per second. The IG200 is a one-unit high security appliance based design available for rack-mounted or stand-alone deployment.

The IG200 is a bi-directional Fast Ethernet version of the production-released gigabit rated IG2000. This gateway is aimed in part at deployments deeper in the network to provide additional granular traffic monitoring and protection. This intrusion mitigation device can work in concert with the IG2000 at the network edge and with network and content switches to inexpensively provide another layer of traffic and protocol anomaly prevention closer to the web, application, database, email, and other servers. With worms and other malicious traffic infecting servers and spreading floods within the interior of the network, locating the IG200 closer to these servers can block these internal floods or external floods targeting these servers.

For smaller scale web hosting, ISPs, and small to medium sized businesses (SMB) with dual T3 or similar speed Internet links; the IG200 is an ideal solution at the WAN interface. This latest model expands the solutions IT professions have to prevent denial of service (DoS) and distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks at the edge. Such attacks are becoming increasingly prevalent with these smaller organizations with lower speed WAN connections being targeted. In its recent Internet Security Threat Report, Symantec observed that denial-of-service attacks grew to over one thousand per day by the end of 2005. This level of growth demonstrates it is no longer a Fortune 1000 problem. The IG200 is an inexpensive solution that addresses these companies needs for intrusion prevention. The appliance is completely network transparent and designed to be used without any user intervention. The security appliance automatically learns the traffic patterns present and the trends and seasonality over time with continual updates. Attacks are blocked without any administrator inputs. With a base address table of over one million legitimate IP addresses; these addresses are used to compare new incoming connections to help validate the client as legitimate. To ensure legitimate traffic gets through during attacks, new connections not in the table are validated through a new anti-spoofing technique. Along with the Microfine GranularityTM of over three million OSI layer two through four parameters, constantly updated traffic thresholds for each parameter, and other techniques, the IG200 prevents false positives, blocks malicious traffic within two seconds while allowing legitimate traffic at bi-directional fast Ethernet rates to proceed.
